What to Expect at a Life Group
Maybe you've never been to a small group, or even if you have you're wondering what a Grace Point life group will look and feel like. Life groups have a lot of unique character to them depending upon the make-up of a group and setting. Here are some of the types of groups and common variables you'll find:
- Co-ed with children
- Co-ed without any children (often changes over time, though!)
- Men-only
- Women-only
- College-Aged
While the make-up and life pace of each group may vary, the common elements you can expect to find in a life group at Grace Point include:
- Meet weekly. Some groups have varying days on which they meet, but in order to sustain intimacy and effective community groups all meet weekly.
- Mostly in homes. Some groups will meet on campus for the childcare convenience, but a majority of groups will meet in homes. Sometimes a group will rotate among homes.
- Purpose of seeking missional growth. Lots of things and short-term goals may exist within a life group, but Biblical community is about discipleship to Jesus, growing in our full devotion and living out a grace lifestyle by His grace.
- Not just Sunday School in a living room! Bible study is one key component of a life group but teaching/learning is not all there is in vibrant community. Authentic relationships, worship, prayer, serving together, reaching the world and studying God's Word all go into the mix of real community.
